Birding is the fastest growing past-time in America! Join the fun with this activity. It's great for troops, groups, families and individuals. All are welcome; you do not need to be a Girl Scout to participate. A special invitation has been sent to Boy Scouts in Monmouth and Ocean counties through their council distribution methods. Patches are available for all Girl Scouts. Our program is designed not only as an introduction to birding but also to get you ready to participate in the Cornell University Count and/or the Great Outdoor Bird Count.
What to expect
- Participants will be given a passport outlining stations and workshops; as you travel from one station to another the facilitator will stamp or post a sticker on the completed station/workshop.
- Guest Speaker: TBA- will give a presentation about bird behavior .
- Participants will be able to define and describe some bird behaviors.
- Participants will be able to difine and describe the difference between observation and interference.
- Participants will be able to categorize behavior and begin to collect data.

- I. DVD from Cornell Lab of Ornithology:Exploring Bird Behavior.
- II Introduction to Citizen Science-Crows Count and CamClick
- III Birld Slueths: studying bird behavior.
- IV Help create an "I Wonder List"
- V Adaptive bird behaviors: how do birds survive?
- VI Inquiring into Bird Behavior.
Workshops:
- I Learn to participate in the "Crows Count" citizen science project.
- II Learn to participate in the "CamClick" citizen science project.

Our program is designed to help all ages get into birding and participate in citizen science projects form bird counting to bird observaions. During this time of International Migratory Day you will learn how to participate in at least on of the citizen science projects listed under workshops.
We will be sell food: hot dogs, chips, and cold and hot drinks for $3. You're also welcome to bring your own food and picnic.
